• Twin Yamaha 9.9 GEX 4 stroke outboard engines mounted under helm seats with remote electric key start and engine controls at starboard helm
• The motors are lifted manually by a 2:1 tackle system – simple and easy. It’s great to be able to pull the motors up and get rid of the drag when sailing. It’s also great to be able to lift the motors up and get at the props for the inevitable line wrapped round the prop scenario. It also means that the props are always absolutely clean – no fouling at all.
• Fuel Consumption - at 12 months into ownership and after some longer trips, the average fuel usage is about 1.25 litres per hour per motor. Round the bay its holding at 1 litre per hour or less but I think pushing into big seas/wind etc I will probably work on 1.75 LPH. I keep a strict record of fuel usage in a separate log and am very confident in my usage records.
• The motors are brilliant, they are quiet and easy to start, easy to retract. They don’t have big alternators like diesels but I can live with that. Filling the fuel tanks is a bit of a pain, but I have found the easiest way is via jerry cans. What is absolutely great is that the tanks, the fuel lines and motors are all outside the boat. Any dramas with leaks etc and no fuel is held in the boat. A great safety factor.
